Welcome to the Institute of Urban Homesteading!

2015 Classes will be online and open for registration on February 15, 2015
want to give the gift of classes this holiday season?

The Urban Homestead classroom is a gathering place to research, ferment and learn together.
We feature small class sizes and experiential learning.

Our mission is to
* Offer affordable classes in the art of living in an urban environment
* Preserve a slower, more intentional, more sustainable and more pleasurable way of life
* Rescue the lost arts of the garden, the kitchen and things done by hand
* Imbue everyday tasks with wonder and beauty
* Promote self-determination and the ability of each person to educate themselves

The Institute of Urban Homesteading is a response to current interest in food security, localization and self-determination. We are riding the wave of a massive global movement to change our relationship to food and resources. Necessary components of this movement are small-scale person-to-person, person-to-land based projects. IUH seeks to fill this need and to model sustainable, local direct-action through education. We intend to conserve both personal and global resources by staying home and tending the garden.

Gifting Classes This Holiday Season
Are you interested in gifting 2015 classes to riends or family?
Unfortunately our 2015 main season will not be posted until February 15, 2015. and we cannot sell classes that are not yet posted on our calendar. You may however purchase any of our Winter Season classes using our regular registration system. For other classes we encourage you to purchase a gift certificate. Gift certificates allow the recipient to choose the class of their choice (or you can specify a class of your choice if you wish--include this in special instructions from the buyer) and are redeemed at the top of our sliding scale to allow for the extra work it takes us to issue and administer the certificate. This little extra is a boon to our organization and we thank you for choosing this option. If you cannot afford this option we suggest making your own handmade gift card telling the recipient that you will pay for the specific class once it becomes available. More details and buy it now button for gift certificates can be found HERE.
